About Us

KnowledgeFunding Ohio, Inc. (KFO) was founded in 2005 and is Ohio’s designated non-profit secondary market for student loans made under the Higher Education Act of 1965. Pursuant to Internal Revenue Code Section 150(d), KFO is authorized to issue tax exempt bonds to finance student loans made to residents of Ohio or students attending Ohio institutions of Higher Education. KFO is an affiliate of KnowledgeWorks, a leading education philanthropy.

Since its founding, KFO has issued $444 million of tax exempt bonds in two Series: Series 2005 in the amount of $244 million and Series 2006 in the amount of $200 million. As of August 31, 2010, a total of $357.1 million of bonds remained outstanding, of which $312.7 million were Senior Bonds and $44.4 million were Subordinate Bonds.

The Bonds were issued in the form of Auction Rate Securities (ARS). Since February 2008 disruptions in the US capital markets have caused the periodic auctions of ARS to fail. The failed auctions have resulted in the requirement to pay penalty rates of interest to the Bondholders.

This website was constructed to provide Bondholders and other interested parties with information about the bonds, important documents, historical financial information and forward looking information.
